How to care for fresh protea
Recut stems at an angle and place in fresh water. Change the water every two days and strip any leaves below the waterline — protea leaves foul water quickly. Keep out of direct sun.
When the water runs out
Don't throw it away. Protea dries itself — leave the stems standing as the water goes down, or pull them out and set them somewhere dry. The bracts stiffen, the color deepens to a warmer rose, and the flower keeps going indefinitely.
